Job's Truth is a new opera by composer Darius Holbert, featuring libretto by his father, Dr. John Holbert, based on Dr. Holbert's own translation and reading of the Old Testament's Book of Job.
It was commissioned through the generosity of Perkins' School of Theology's quadrennial Art and Soul Grant.
This version was recorded at a Los Angeles studio in
the early part of 2009 with the help and magnanimity of eight incredibly talented, professional, LA-based vocalists. This recording is intended strictly for promotional purposes, and hence the
instrumental parts remain software synth based.
The work is written for string quartet, marimba, vibes, piano, and drum set. It features eight vocal parts, and eight
instrumentalists but the option exists for doubling the sextet in the role of God, and doubling the string quartet, for larger productions.
